When you own a home with a chimney and fireplace system, you are responsible for making sure that it works
properly and safely so that your family is protected from accidental fires, carbon monoxide leaks, and other dangerous safety hazards. One of the most important responsibilities you have is scheduling your annual professional chimney maintenance services. Hiring the most qualified chimney sweep possible will ensure that the job has been done properly. In the Louisville area, All American Chimney Service is proud to provide the ultimate credential from the leading expert in the chimney industry: the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)Master Sweepcertification. We would like to tell you more about this credential as well as what you can expect from our professional annual chimney maintenance services appointment.
How is the CSIA Master Sweep certification different from the CSIA Chimney Sweep certification?
To be eligible to become a CSIA Master Sweep, one must be an active CSIA-certified chimney sweep and have held this certification for either a minimum of nine consecutive years or 18 non-consecutive years. Applicants must also complete at least six CSIA courses, such as Chimney Physics or CSIA Lining Masonry Chimneys with Stainless Steel. Earning certification as a CSIA Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician can be counted as completing a course. The final requirement for the CSIA Master Sweep certification is holding an active certification with the National Fireplace Institute (NFI), which can be earned through the wood and gas fireplace courses offered by CSIA. This is a course that can be substituted by a current F.I.R.E. Certified Inspector credential or an Associate level (or higher) degree from an accredited college in Fire Science.
So what does all of this mean? It means that when you work with All American Chimney, you can rest assured that you are working with a team that takes continuing education and best practices very seriously. Also, having the only active Master Chimney Sweep in Kentucky on our team means you’re working with the highest credentialed chimney sweeping company around!
What can I expect from my annual professional chimney maintenance appointment with All American Chimney Service?
When we arrive at your home for your annual chimney sweeping and inspection appointment, we will begin by laying down drop cloths over furniture and other items. This protects the areas in your home from getting dirty during the sweeping process. An industrial-strength vacuum is set up to keep any dirt, dust, or other debris from entering your home. We will then begin the sweeping process with specialized tools, such as a whirling porcupine brush attached to a drill. As we sweep your chimney, we will also check out the components of your interior chimney to check for damage or other problems. We will end our appointments with a visual inspection of the exterior of your chimney.
