Chimney Maintenance

You may have seen All American Chimney Service recommending that you have your chimney swept during the late summer. You meant to give us a call to schedule an appointment then, but once school started back in session, your family’s schedule got busier and busier. You may have even forgotten about your chimney until the holidays as you lit a fire in your fireplace that you had forgotten to make that appointment. By that time, you figured it was too late to call us. You may think that just because we are in the middle of winter that you will have to wait for over a month before one of our Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)-certified chimney sweeps has an opening to come service your chimney, but we want to let you know that it is never too late to schedule your annual chimney maintenance appointment with us. Depending on your schedule, you will not have to wait very long because we can take care of your chimney as soon as possible. Just because your fireplace and chimney seem to be working safely at the moment does not mean there are not hidden hazards like creosote deposits lurking inside your chimney that could be very dangerous. We would like to answer a couple of questions about this fire hazard and what we can do to make your chimney safe.

What is creosote?

When you have a wood-burning fireplace, creosote forms as a residue of smoke, gases, and other byproducts of combustion during the condensation process of combustion. Creosote can accumulate into large deposits quickly under certain conditions, including burning wood that has not been properly seasoned. The danger occurs when the internal temperature of your chimney gets hot enough to ignite the creosote deposits into flames. Creosote is so highly flammable that the CSIAhas named it as a leading cause ofchimney fires.

How can All American Chimney Service help me avoid this fire hazard?

One of the main reasons the CSIA and other national fire safety organizations recommend that homeowners have their chimneys professionally swept once a year is to have all of the creosote removed from the inner walls to prevent chimney fires. Our CSIA-certified chimney sweeps take great care to be sure every bit of creosote has been swept and removed from your chimney and home. Safety is our top priority, and we make sure that any fire hazard caused by creosote deposits is not an issue after sweeping your chimney.

It’s not too late to make sure your chimney and fireplace are working safely for the rest of the winter.Contactus at All American Chimney Service today to schedule an appointment for your annual chimney sweeping and inspection.
