All About HeatShield

If you have an older masonry chimney, you most likely have a clay tile chimney liner. Clay liners are excellent because the tiles can withstand the extremely high temperatures from burning wood and resist corrosion from the byproducts of combustion, but as they get older, clay tile liners can begin to crack and chip away. A cracked and damaged chimney liner causes your chimney to be unsafe and hazardous to use, according to theChimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA). In the past, repairing and replacing a clay tile liner could be very costly, but a revolutionary product called HeatShield has changed that. All American Chimney Service is proud to use HeatShield to repair, restore, and reline clay tile chimney liners, and we would like to tell you more about this product by answering some of the most frequently asked questions we have encountered.
How exactly does HeatShield work?
Made up of a specially formulated “Cerfractory” sealant material, HeatShield uses two types of chimney liner repair techniques to restore the integrity of the chimney clay flue liner and to improve the venting ability of removing toxic gases from the house. HeatShield also provides a CeCure Sleeve Relining System to completely reline a chimney. The CSIA-certified chimney sweeps at All American Chimney Service will inspect the condition of your clay tile liner to determine which HeatShield technique to use to repair or reline your chimney. Proven to eliminate the hazards in your chimney caused by gaps, cracks, and spalling, you can depend on HeatShield to last for many years.
What are the two types of chimney liner repair techniques from HeatShield?
The Joint Repair System is the first technique and is used to repair deteriorated mortar joints in a clay tile chimney liner. In this technique, a foam applicator and blade that have been customized to your chimney are inserted into your chimney and positioned below all gaps and voids. Our chimney technicians will then add the HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant mixture to fill all of the gaps and voids in your flue. After repairing each gap or void, we go across them with the blade to smoothen them out. The Resurfacing System is the second technique and can be used to restore cracked or spalled yet otherwise still sound flues. All American Chimney Service, LLC will coat the entire chimney flue with the HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant. After the jobs are completed, both of these repair techniques will be scanned by video to be sure the techniques were properly done.
What is the CeCure Sleeve Relining System?
If your chimney liner is damaged beyond repair or restoration or if your chimney does not have a liner, All American Chimney Service, LLC can reline your chimney with the CeCure Sleeve Relining System, which is a thin, ceramic insulation that is reinforced with stainless steel fabric and placed between two layers of HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant. This service will also be scanned upon completion by video to ensure proper installation of the new liner.
