For many families, summer is a busy season filled with vacations, camps, and other activities.
The warmer months are also a great time to take care of home maintenance responsibilities, but it can get overwhelming to remember everything you need to do. Forgetting to schedule your annual chimney sweeping and inspection appointment before fall arrives can mean you may have to wait a few weeks to use your fireplace.
Many national fire safety organizations like the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommend having your chimney professionally swept and inspected before lighting the first fire of the year, and our sweeps at All American Chimney Service have packed schedules from September through December working on chimneys in the Louisville area, which can make it difficult to get an appointment when you want.
Scheduling these chimney maintenance appointments during our off-season in the summer allows you to easily get the appointment time you need. We also offer forward scheduling so that you can go ahead and set up your chimney sweep appointment for next year. The advantages to this include not having to remember to make this appointment and getting your fireplace and chimney ready to use for the fall. We would like to tell you a bit more about what you can expect from our chimney sweeping and inspection services.
When All American Chimney Service comes to your home to sweep your chimney, we start by taking great care to keep your house clean by laying down drop cloths in front of the fireplace and the surrounding area. We guarantee a no-mess chimney sweep and also set up a high-powered vacuum with a HEPA filter to be sure no dust or soot gets into your home from the chimney. Our CSIA-certified chimney sweeps will then begin sweeping your chimney by scrubbing the firebox with hand brushes. We then use brushes, rods, and a whirling porcupine brush attached to a drill to seriously clean your chimney and remove all of the flammable creosote deposits from the inner walls of your chimney.
While All American Chimney Service is sweeping your chimney, we are also working on part of the inspection. We use a closed circuit video camera to be able to have a close-up look of the condition of your inner chimney. All of the footage is recorded, so if we do find any damage, we will be able to show you on the video. After we have checked out the inside of your chimney, we will examine the exterior of your chimney. We will look for any damaged or missing bricks and mortar joints that could lead to water leaks, and if we have access, we will inspect your chimney cap and/or crown. You will receive a written evaluation of the condition of your chimney that includes photos of any problems, if found.
Be sure your fireplace and chimney are ready to use on the first cool day of fall. Contact us at All American Chimney Service to schedule your chimney maintenance appointment and to learn more about the advantages of forward scheduling.
